This year I will be raising money in memory of Marie Hunter, in aid of ''Our Place'' Community Hub. By raising as much as possible, everyone involved will be helping to support the funds they need, to keep providing such a wonderful service with their mentoring in the local community.
"Our Place" Community hub was started in 2011 by Kelly Round. Kelly was determined to help the local community, and was fully aware of the need for a mentoring service to help disadvantaged and abused children.
Kelly immediately began recruiting suitable candidates to operate as mentors, and in January 2012 Marie joined "Our Place" to begin her training.
Marie began her work at "Our Place" and loved helping the children as a mentor. During her time at "Our Place" she helped many children re-gain a normal family life and give them back the self respect and confidence that they had lost.
I am honoured to be taking part the Great Midlands Fun Run again on the 3rd June this year, running 8.5 miles around beautiful Sutton Park. With Marie's family and friends, I will be running with the team to say thank you to Kelly and all the staff at "Our Place" for giving Marie the opportunity to complete the work she loved doing so much before sadly losing her fight with Brain cancer in February 2017.
