We have come together to raise money for and awareness of SAFE! Support for Young People Affected by crime by running the Oxford HALF MARATHON on 9th October!!
2 of us have been involved with SAFE! for several years and 1 of us is a big supporter of the charity and the work that they do!
"I'm taking part in this challenge because I was asked to and I couldn't refuse ... SAFE! does incredible work that I have been honored to be involved in for over 5 years. Watching it grow and develop into a project that reaches more people has been incredible and all the young people I work with are inspiring.
I'm terrified of running further than 10k so am hoping that by taking up my own advice about challenging myself and taking positive risks that I can further inspire the young people I work with to do the same."
"I was introduced to SAFE! by Kat. I think its a much needed service for peoples mental health as when you hear about crimes so much focus goes on the conviction and the convict, the long term effect on the victim kind of gets forgotten. The recent Stanford assault case really highlighted this with the victims letter to the defendant.
I am running the half marathon to challenge myself and to help raise some money for this great cause."
"I have worked for SAFE! for six years and I am passionate about young people’s rights and raising awareness of the impact of crime. The most humbling part of working for SAFE! is the high levels of resilience and strength demonstrated by young people and I often feel honored to work with SAFE! clients. I am running the half marathon to raise funds to support more young people through what is often a challenging time in their lives and to promote the excellent service that SAFE! Project Workers deliver to their clients."
SAFE! works across the Thames Valley providing support to children and young people who have been harmed by crime and bullying and who are struggling to move on from their experience..
