SAFE! works with young people who have been harmed by crime & bullying. SAFE! provides individually tailored support to help young people cope without responding physically or internalising their feelings; develop strategies to report incidents; and realise it is not their fault if they have been hurt. SAFE! uses protective behaviours and restorative approaches to aid recovery. Without timely support their experience can lead to further problems including absence from school or work.
Why the community needs usSAFE! helps young people develop tools to allow them to feel safe in their key environments including their home, neighbourhood & school. By developing coping strategies for when they feel unsafe & recognising & developing their support networks, these young people are less likely to go onto criminal behaviour later on. We work to achieve an improvement within the young people in the following areas: safety, anger/ upset about the incident, confidence, happiness & knowing how to access support.
Our impact on the communitySAFE! helps young people develop tools to allow them to feel safe in their key environments including their home, neighbourhood & school. By developing coping strategies for when they feel unsafe & recognising & developing their support networks, these young people are less likely to go onto criminal behaviour later on. Evaluations show our approach is effective; after receiving support, 60% of the young people who initially avoided part of their neighbourhood reduced to 29% during the project.
