Like most, My Mother is my Best Friend, we have been through so much over the years together but nothing compared to this. She makes me so proud to call her my Mum, her strength, fight and determination are all the things i learnt from her. <3
A year ago my Mother and I decided to sneak off, have a coffee and 5 minutes to ourselves, where we could catch up without being called Mum, Nanny or wife. Little did we know we would get ‘THAT’ call.
The most Amazing and terrifying 24/48 hours of our lives, the most Amazing, selfless act a family and person can do. We were given news that the Hospital had a kidney which was a potential match for my mother.
My Mum has been ill for so long we never expected the call to come. We left Leeks and the drive home to get her bag was a blur and so was the drive to Cardiff Hospital.
Following numerous tests, scans and doctors visits, the operation went ahead. I personally didn’t think or consider where the kidney was coming from or what had happened... my only concern was the kidney was a match.
It’s not till afterwards you when you get time to reflect on what has happened that you realise how lucky you are that you have been given the most Amazing gift that anyone can give you, whilst their family are making the most selfless act of kindness at their most terrible time.
I honestly don’t think my Mother would be here today without that Transplant and I would just like the family to know how eternally grateful we are this day and everyday.
I would also like to thank the Amazing Doctors at Morriston Renal Unit, Cardiff University Hospital Transplant Ward and all the staff that have been so kind over the last 10 years.
I will be doing this race for her... xx
