York House is a beautiful Grade II listed community centre in the heart of Stony Stratford. We deliver a number of projects from youth clubs to larders to warm hubs as well as providing facilities for people to develop their own community groups. Sadly part of our building, the old stable which houses rooms locally known as The Space and Music Room started to deteriorate a year or two ago. We carried out various surveys and it appears that when refurbishment work was carried out in the late 1970’s old windows were filled in with bricks that didn't match the existing brickwork and that work has now deteriorated causing severe bowing. Unfortunately when we stripped out inside the building to assess the situation further we discovered that similar practices were used on both the gable end and nearside walls. Therefore the repair of this building will be a much bigger project.
However, the exciting part is that it will give us two new amazing spaces for the community to use and for us to provide services. Working with our fantastic building team, Sibek Construction and B&G Property Maintenance, we have estimated full repair and renovation of the stable block will cost approximately £60,000. So how can you help?
