Hi my names Mia and I am undertaking a challenge of a lifetime to raise money for Basingstoke Young Carers and Papyrus ( Prevention of young suicide) by climbing the highest mountain in England with an elevation of 978 metres (3,209 ft) above sea level. The mountain is located in Lake District National Park, in Cumbria and it is part of the Southern Fells.
Both charities are close to my heart and the other 11 members of the Scafell Challenge team. The team consists of 6 Youth Workers and 6 Young People from all types of backgrounds. For all of us this is going to be a great challenge and we would greatly appreciate you supporting us and our charities to raise money on their behalf.
PAPYRUS is the national charity for the prevention of young suicide. We operate HOPELineUK - 0800 068 41 41 a freephone national confidential line staffed by trained professionals providing practical advice, support and information to anyone concerned that someone they know is feeling suicidal.
Basingstoke Young Carers supports and empowers young carers and their families in Basingstoke & Deane. We were launched in April 2009 by Basingstoke Voluntary Services.
We offer the chance for the young carer to take a break from their caring responsibilities by providing activities, information, support and guidance to the young person and their families. We work in partnership with schools, colleges, local council departments, doctors and many more, to ensure that young carers are identified and supported.
To enable the project to deliver other respite activities we have to seek additional funding. We have been lucky enough over the years to have received very kind donations from organisations, which has helped us to deliver the youth clubs, day trips and residentials.
