Although the UK has made progress towards a more diverse and accepting society, many young people still face challenges and experience anxiety in relation to their sexual orientation or gender identity. SexYOUality is a charity based in Cambridgeshire that does a fantastic job of providing support and services for LGBT* young people, as well as offering training within schools to help tackle homophobia and transphobia.
SexYOUality have provided a lot of advice and support in relation to my PhD research, which is exploring LGBT* young people's resilience in response to commonplace challenges at school. So, in addition to thinking that this is a great cause for which to raise money generally, I would also like to give something back to the charity by fundraising for them whilst running the Cambridge half marathon.
