I will be shaving my head to raise vital life saving support for Harmless.
“Small actions x Lots of people = BIG CHANGE”
Let’s face it, times have been tough. Collectively people are experiencing adversity & distress in ways we just couldn’t prepare ourselves for. As a first time mum who has battled with the ups and downs of bringing up a child during the pandemic, I too have felt the impact. I reflect on how I might have handled this, dare I say, many years ago & feel lucky to have developed supports & insight that protect & empower me. I know out of experience this isn’t the case for everyone. 50% of people who die by suicide have a history of self harm. To me it couldn’t be clearer Suicide prevention starts with Self harm prevention. I want to do what I can to support hope & drive change. With that I hope you will join me by supporting this small fundraiser.
Harmless is the National Centre of Excellence for Self harm & Suicide prevention work. It has been my second family for just over 6 years. Whilst I was busy having my beautiful baby daughter, back in 2019, my inspiring colleagues worked with tenacity & pure passion to meet the demands of our clients during the pandemic. We noted a 200% increase in referrals during this time & we continue to dedicate ourselves to saving lives every day.
As I mentioned I too have felt the impact of recent events & unfortunately have developed an autoimmune condition, Alopecia Areata. As resilient as I would like to think I am about my appearance, loosing chunks of my hair has been quite an ordeal. There have been tears, anger, desperation & so much more. In an effort to take some positive control of my current adversity I would like to raise some money to provide life saving services for those who don’t have the supports I do. For those invisible voices, the ones feeling trapped, trying to survive & contemplating their self worth. Please stand with me & by whatever means you can show them our support.
