Anyone who knows me will know walking has never been my strong suit so this lockdown I am challenging myself to walk 120km in just 1 week to raise money for Leeds Women's Aid.
Why 120km I hear you ask... During the first lockdown in March calls to domestic abuse hotlines increased rapidly to a rate of 120 per hour. That's one every 30 seconds. It has been a difficult year for everyone, furlough, job losses and money issues have affected us all but I feel incredibly lucky to have a comfortable, safe and loving home to have spent lockdown in but this is not the case for so many women living in the UK.
Leeds Women’s Aid is an independent charity, providing services to women and children affected by Domestic Violence & Abuse. They provide a range of the very best services for vulnerable women and families who are victims and survivors of: domestic, sexual & honour based violence and abuse; forced marriage; trafficking; stalking and harassment.
What your donation could help provide
£5 provides a woman with basic toiletries when they arrive in refuge
£10 provides safety and legal information for one young woman
£20 pays for safe and secure transport for a vulnerable young victim to attend a court hearing for a day
£25 pays for an interpreter to enable us to contact a victim in one of over 200 languages that are spoken in Leeds
Any donation small or large will go a huge way to helping a vulnerable woman in need in the City of Leeds on the first step of a journey to safe, independent living so thank you for whatever you can give and keep your eye on this page or my facebook for regular updates about how I am doing with the walks :)
