My daughter is a cadet at the Sunbury and Walton Sea Cadets unit (TS Black Swan). The unit does amazing work to develop young peoples skills, confidence and self discipline through nautical adventure and fun. It's an amazing meeting place for youngsters 10-18. Adult volunteers acting as good role models challenge, inspire and mentor youngsters based on the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy.
The cadets are a credit to the community and are confident youngsters who give back. The impact that sea cadets has, makes them very employable and responsible. They learn valuable skills with opportunities such as Engineering BTEC's, Duke of Edinburgh Award. The emphasis on water teaches rowing, canoeing and sailing and power boating with opportunity for foreign exchange visits and offshore sailing.
The unit was flooded in 2014 and is in the process of raising funds for a new building. I am doing a walk on 14th July to help them and your contributions will go a long way!
