Southend International Judo Championships is the biggest Judo competition in the UK run by a local non-profit judo club. It attracts hundreds of Judo players from around the world. For 2 days a year judo players from around the world flock to Southend to compete for the title of Southend International Judo Champion. It provides a very welcome boost to local businesses at a time of year when tourism is slowing down.

Southend Judo Club has been running the Southend International Judo Championships for the past two years. In that time we have had very positive responses from Local Government and local businesses. But, mainly we have had an incredible response from local Judo players who are finally able to show of their skills in front of family and friends, to show them what the sport they do is all about. The pride in their faces is visible for months afterwards!

With our project we are hoping to showcase Judo to a wider public. Ultimately this should increase the number of people partaking in Judo in the community.
