Young people between the ages of 14 and 24 yrs old will be given free Judo lessons once a week. They also receive a Judo suit and a license with the British Judo Association (NGB). Lessons will be provided in the local Youth Club and will be open to all youngsters in the area that fit within the age bracket.
Why they need our serviceIt has been recognised by local Youth Clubs, the Youth Offending Organisation and Police that providing young people with Judo classes has a positive effect on their behavior, it provides them with a sense of belonging and a goal that they can work towards.
Plan and expected resultsIt is expected that once youngsters have been given a chance to try Judo within their own environment, they will want to come and enjoy a lesson at our regular weekly sessions at the club. We hope it will give them something else to do rather than hang around on the streets...hence the project name: Street 2 Mat
