Stuart Smith of the late Peterborough Crane Hire as well as a talented musician was an icon to many, all with their own personal reasons.
My personal reason is that he was a Dad to me, he was a role model to my family well as myself.
I like to refer to him as "A Hero". He had prostate cancer diagnosed in 2004 and then cancer of the liver was diagnosed in 2013. Even though the future looked unclear he still had a positive outlook on life and used his worldly wisdom to keep as all "looking on the bright side".
With great sadness the "bright side of my life" was taken on 26th March 2015.......
Brian Pearce of Railworld Peterborough also has his personal reasons to admire my Dad and he has had a very touching idea of a "Stuart Smith Walk" within the Wildlife Haven of Railworld.
In Brian's words he says
"Stuart Smith and his fabulous yellow PCH cranes were instrumental in creating the Wildlife Haven at Railworld and the Globe Hall Environmental Education Centre. Without our great friend and benefactor Stuart Smith, the Railworld Volunteers would be not have been able to create the Education Centre - or habitat for our native species.
Stuart had a passion to help, not just creating a 'home for nature' but an intriguing, exciting place for our children to explore and learn about our natural world. I have been a volunteer for over 30 years with the project of Railworld, the 'Haven' is Stuart - Without him we could not have done it! We would like to put a plaque on one of the historic Victorian bridges that PCH installed and name one of the 'Walks' within the Wildlife Haven - 'Stuart Smith Walk'. "
I have been to see the other habitat under development and was overwhelmed by the beauty and peace that nature provides.
For this reason I am keen to support Brian and his plans for this development to take place.
Being a charity run Peterborough attraction this is where we need your help!
