The Challenge I am running 45 miles- 72 kms - bad enough distance wise but this is the world's highest ulltramarathon. Starting at 13000+ feet and climbing upto nearly 18000 feet, I will face three challenges a) serious lack of Oxygen and risk of Acute Mountain Sickness b) temperature variation from -5C to 25C c) 22miles (about 35 kms) of steady ascent at 4.5 degrees average. Training for this ultra has been painful enough- actually doing it will test my limits to the hilt. Why am I doing it? I am raising money for a project close to my heart. Borderline Personality disorder affects up to 2% people in the UK. It is a much misunderstood disorder and stigmatised widely even within mental health! And yet with appropriate help, support and treatment most can get better. Raising awareness is key especially for young people. Which charity am I supporting and why? Borderline Arts is a Derby-based organisation that helps people with Borderline Personality Disorder using the medium of art. Their bi-monthly art workshop not only helps people with borderline personality disorder but also generates quality art pieces- you have to visit their Art Exhibition at the Quad, Derby. They are a very lean organisation led by committed individuals such as Kevin Bagshaw, a very Senior Dialectical Behaviour Therapist with active (and democratic) involvement of people with Birderline Personality Disorder. What will your donation be used for? £300 - will fund one bimonthly workshop for a year. £150 - will fund a training workshop in schools/colleges, led by people with lived experience of personality disorder. The bulk of the money raised will be used towards developing an educational film. This will be a national (and international) resource that will go a long way in changing the way people perceive borderline personality disorder. Please donate generously- every £ counts.
