I'm attempting to run the London Landmarks Half Marathon on April 2nd in aid of Nottingham-based suicide prevention crisis service, The Tomorrow Project. I say 'attempting' to run as my body hasn't let me run consistently since having Covid in September 2020! I will do this, even if I have to run-walk-run-walk etc.
The Tomorrow Project is a confidential suicide prevention project set up to support individuals and communities to prevent suicide. Suicide is a decision that someone makes to end their life when they feel overwhelmed by their circumstances, when the struggles they face seem too difficult or painful or they feel they have run out of options. The Tomorrow Project supports people when they are full of despair, assisting them to find the hope and help they need in order to save their lives. They also provide essential support for families and communities who are bereaved by suicide.
It costs £47 for a support session for someone in need - so any donations will be very much appreciated. I would love to raise enough money for ten support sessions - that would truly make a difference for someone desperately in need or a family in need of support.
Mental health support services in the UK are woefully inadequate, underfunded and out of reach or non-existent for so many people. Waiting times are ridiculous for people struggling with mental health issues and it is often too late for some. The level of support you receive and the time it takes for you to receive it is a postcode lottery - wildy different and very dependent on where you live and the NHS service that serves your area. This is wrong.
Charity-funded services like The Tomorrow Project, should not have to exist - but thank goodness they do.
