Glastonbury Chilkwell Carnival has a heritage of over 150 years, dating back to the time of Guy Fawkes, a time where everyone celebrated the failure of Guy Fawkes to blow up the houses of parliament...did you know that's where our history started?
Today, the event is much different to the horse draw carriages and torch light and todays carnival costs and red tape are extremely different too. Insurance, licences, extra welfare facilities, first aid, fire safety plus numerous other costs are involved in putting on this event. To cover the costs of carnival each year we need to raise £22,000 (£12,000 insurance and equipment hire costs, £10,000 prize and appearance money).
Glastonbury Carnival is one of Somersets largest events in the Mendip area, attracting many thousands of spectators, increasing tourism by millions. We are not publicly funded, we do not receive grants and this event is run by a small amount volunteers. (Volunteers always wanted!)
We are in need of spectators and supporters to find a little extra money to make sure the heritage of this event continues year after year.
2016 total cash thrown in the collecting floats and buckets was less than £15,000.
We need to match £22,000 so that we can cover the costs.
