TEAM BRODS
Chris Green, Gareth Standeven and James Ogden, maturing nicely in to their 40s*, are former Old Brods rugby teammates who currently coach the Brods Tots and Under 6s (*Gaz tells us he's actually 39!).
THE CHALLENGE
The "Mandathon" is in memory of Mandy Taylor MBE. Mandy loved the Yorkshire coast so, in her name, friends and supporters have been invited to run, walk or cycle the 32 miles between Whitby and Filey on Saturday 7th May. Greeny, Gaz and Oggy will be running the distance (...hopefully!) with Matthew Hoyle in support on the bicycle.
THE CAUSE
Any donations of support will be following Mandy's passing wish to help underprivileged children and young people to create memories. This is through the #BeMoreMandy Fund, in partnership with the One Community Foundation Kirkless.
MANDY AND THE BRODS
Cancer-kicking Mandy sadly left us at the start of December 2021 when, for the third time, the big C came back. She was just 53.
Soon after, Mandy was posthumously recognised for all her charity work with an MBE from the Queen. Work that included raising over £2 million for good causes and her part in setting up the Forget Me Not Children's Hospice.
Back in 2017 Mandy joined the volunteer group behind the Brodstock Charity Music Festival - which takes place every June at the rugby club. Her flare, warmth and enthusiasm made her the perfect festival-day hostess and many of our festival-goers will remember how she lit up the stage. However, beyond the mic, Mandy was also an active volunteer all year round bringing her event experience to planning meetings, creating further community partnerships and helping recruit festival sponsors and raffle donors.
We miss you Lady T x
