Hello,
On Saturday 10th October, my family and I will be taking part in the Bedford Memory Walk. This includes my mum who has Alzheimer's. Mum proves that some people can live well with Dementia - she is amazing!
I've worked in the field of Dementia for many, many years and it never fails to amaze me how carers of those who have it, just get on with life. I have lived through this with a loved one and am now living with it again so it is very close to home. My day to day job is helping people to cope with Dementia and finding ways to live a better life.
Research is key to this disease, we know there is no cure at the moment but we are closer to it. I truly believe that in my lifetime - there will be a cure for Alzheimer's. There are approximately 182 types of Dementia and each come with their own behaviours and issues. BUT, at the heart of it all is a person who is still very much with us and deserves the respect of being treated as we would anyone else that we love.
The event is held by the Alzheimer's Society but I have chosen to raise funds for the local charity Northamptonshire Carers who run a Dementia Advice Service and support the carers of those with Dementia.
If you are able to donate anything to this event, my family and I would be extremely grateful.
Thanks
Dawn.
