We offer a cooked vegetarian breakfast every Friday for just £1 to anybody who is retired or claiming income-related benefits. This helps people to get the day off to a great start and is a filling, healthy meal that should help to beat the temptation from snacks later in the day.
Why they need our serviceLenton has a high rate of people who are out of work or on a low income, and also a high rate of people who have a long term limiting illness. Nottingham City Council have also identified healthy diets as a key way of tackling obesity and associated problems in later life, and this is given priority in the City Healthy Weight Strategy.
Plan and expected resultsWe have a number of regular customers for the £1 Breakfasts scheme, who have told us that their regular Friday breakfast has prompted them to try new foods, such as vegetarian options, and that coming to Crocus for breakfast helps to give some structure and focus to the day.
