The Green Gang project will work with local special schools in Reading and Newbury and offer children with special educational needs the opportunity to participate in sessions in the market garden. The children and young people will enjoy fun, hand on experiences in gardening, wildlife and eco art. Additionally, participants develop a long term improvement in their eating habits and enjoy a more active lifestyle. Moreover, being involved in the project will increase their social networks a
Why they need our serviceOften, children and young people with special educational needs have limited opportunities to participate in local community projects due to a constraint on funding, resources and time. The Green Gang project would lead to healthier communities and promote healthy and more sustainable lifestyles for children and young people with special educational needs.
Plan and expected resultsThe aim of the Green Gang project is that the children and young people will develop the skills and knowledge to be able to start growing their own food back at school and/or at home in their own gardens. The wildlife sessions will enable them to create wildlife friendly areas both at school and at home. Eco Art will lead to an increased appreciation of nature and promote creativity.
