The Green Team project will give adults with learning disabilities the opportunity to participate in regular gardening sessions and learn transferable skills in food growing, sustainability and looking after wildlife.

Why they need our service

Often, adults with learning disabilities have limited opportunities to participate in local community projects due to a constraint on funding, resources and time. Statistics show that people with learning disabilities often have a less healthy diet and less active lifestyle. The Green Team project would lead to healthier communities and promote healthy and more sustainable lifestyles for people with disabilities.

Plan and expected results

The aim of the Green Team project is that participants will develop the skills and knowledge to be able to start growing their own food at home in their own gardens or take on shared plots at local allotments. Additionally, participants will develop a long term improvement in their eating habits and enjoy a more active lifestyle. Moreover, being involved in the project will increase their social networks and reduce isolation.
