The installation of an Archimedes Screw to generate power from the river Cherwell in Kirtlington. At the same time we are seeking to restore the old weir and eel trap and generally enhance the whole area which is regularly seen by all who pass it on the Oxfordshire Way.
Why they need our serviceThe project is a high-impact scheme which will involve large numbers of our fellow villagers: many have already taken part in preparatory work and in the successful fund-raising event held in August 2010 at Flights Mill to present the scheme to the community. Others will be involved through the shares soon to be issued. The income will make it possible to start to implement changes that will combine to reduce the community's carbon footprint and steadily increase its sustainability.
Plan and expected resultsIt is anticipated that the scheme will generate 160,000 kWh of power and save over 80 tonnes of carbon per annum. It will produce an income for the village, to be managed by a committee to which villagers will be able to apply for grants to enhance the energy efficiency of their homes and which will be used for a long-term scheme of 'energy descent' for the community.
