During 2011 the artists staged The Ticket Exchange on trains in Derbyshire, inviting people to send a comment by postcard, about their journey. In 2013 the artists produced a series of collage/drawings on postcard sized acrylic as a creative response to the postcards they received from the rail users they met. The artworks were sited temporarily in locations on Whatstandwell and Langwith Whaley Thorns stations in order to continue the creative dialogue begun with the community.

Why they need our service

The project benefitted the public and users of the rail by extending the aims of the artists to provide thought provoking and attractive art for rail users to experience during their waits for trains. The work hopes to encourage more dialogue between travelers and to enhance their traveling experience. The areas are rural and affluent in some parts and post industrial with high unemployment and a demoralized community.

Plan and expected results

The project aimed to demonstrate that small, temporary interventions in public spaces can promote fruitful dialogue between artists and the wider community. This intervention helped to extend the profile of the artists into another area of the country from their studio bases.
