On Saturday 21st April 2018 Avril, Edith, Janine and I will be taking part in a sponsored smile to raise money for the Organisation for Sickle Cell Anaemia Relief and Thalassaemia Support (OSCAR Birmingham) along with other members of our family. OSCAR Birmingham provide advice and guidance around the social issues associated with Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia (genetically inherited blood disorder), offer advocacy to individuals and their families, raise awareness in schools and the community, and promote screening.
We’re doing this in memory of Tina Batten whom we lost on 3 November 2016 to a sickle cell crisis at the age of 27. Tina was a very loving, caring, kind and generous person with a smile that could light up the world. So, we’re following her example and putting on our best smile to fundraise.
The event will take place at Unit 9, The Square, 111 Broad Street, Birmingham B15 1AS from 3-7pm, but I will start smiling from 11am to get in 8 hours of smiling.
