Can you help us continue subsidising transport costs for refugees and people seeking asylum?
We are fundraising to continue reimbursing travel costs for the refugees and people seeking asylum that we support at The Comfrey Project, ahead of rising transport costs in January 2025. We need your help to continue this vital support!
The Comfrey Project offers a safe and welcoming space for refugees and people seeking asylum to learn new skills, improve their wellbeing through nature-based activities and put down roots in their new community. Many people face financial barriers, particularly around transport, so to make our support as accessible as possible, we reimburse travel costs for those attending sessions with us. We hear from our community how important this is, as well as how this helps out a lot in day-to-day life to attend important appointments, go shopping for essentials and meeting with friends.
Travel isn’t just about getting from A to B—it’s a lifeline for rebuilding lives and reconnecting with the community.
A recent study by the Mental Health Foundation focused on how crucial access to transport is for refugees and people seeking asylum. Over 80% of participants struggled to afford public transport, which led to social isolation and worsening mental health. Those who had their travel subsidised reported feeling less anxious about affording transport on a tight budget, more able to engage in community activities, and better connected to support services.
With bus fares set to rise, we’ll be unable to continue reimbursing travel costs without your help. Your support will ensure refugees and people seeking asylum in our community can keep attending our activities, improving their wellbeing and rebuilding their lives.
Thank you for your generosity in helping keep our support accessible!
