Alpe d’ Heuz needs little introduction as it is possibly the most famous cycle climb in the world.
Cycling up Aple D Huez, a grueling 13.8km, 1,850 metre peak in the French Alps, is a feat that has overwhelmed even professional cyclists, but that is not going to stop our very own fundraiser Mandy Plant from doing just that.
To put the 8.5mile Alpe D' Huez route into perspective, Mandy will be cycling all uphill with a climb greater than the total height of Mount Snowdon. Starting at 700m the route will elevate to a whopping 1,850 metres. She is predicting that this will take about 2 hrs on the burning hot tarmac, with no shade as she attempts to grind her way up 21 switchbacks.
Mandy said “It’s a classic climb and every cyclist should attempt this notorious mountain thriller! I’m doing it as I want to raise as much money as I can for Citizens Advice Flintshire which is a charity that helped over 7,300 clients this year. People come to us when they feel they have no -one else to turn to and are in urgent need of support and advice. The work we do is essential and we help people through some of their worst and darkest days. Over 1 in 4 of our clients have mental health issues and we are doing are best to support everyone that needs us at the time they need us.
I have to be honest; I am expecting to experience uncomfortably high levels of pain, frequent vomiting and possibly dehydration. All jokes aside it's got to be worth a few quid of sponsorship, so please help me raise money for such a fantastic cause.''
