Vicky Hutchings (nee Stark)
Vicky passed away at home on the morning of the 2nd June 2014 surrounded by all of her immediate family.
Our story:
When we discovered that Vicky, our beloved mum had cancer we felt like our world had imploded.
Vicky was a devoted wife to our father Kevin who she was married to for 40 years, a loving mother to us - Emma and Paul and a wonderful mother-in-law to Rob and Becky. Vicky was the kindest person you could ever meet, she was bubbly and fun, with a wicked sense of humour and loved by everyone she met.
Vicky was recently diagnosed with end stage metastatic secondary cancer in her brain which came as a complete shock to everyone as there had been no indication of cancer previously. We were informed that Vicky was terminally ill and had a short time left to live.
We brought Vicky home and have been supported by the district nursing team from Horrell Road, Marie Curie and John Taylor Hospice.
Words cannot express the gratitude we feel towards the staff at John Taylor Hospice. They showed us how to assist mum, they were gentle and caring. They enabled mum to feel normal and treated her like the lady that she is and helped her to maintain her dignity and modesty. They pampered her and most importantly spent time with her, they never rushed anything they did and made her feel relaxed.
They supported us too. Dealing with the news that a loved one is dying and that it will be soon is shattering. Although mum was in their care for a short time we built a great relationship with them as that kind of caring is so intense.
We were so fortunate to be helped by the hospice at home team. They only conduct a few home calls in Birmingham a day and rely on fundraising as a source of income.
If you would like to celebrate mum's life and help us to express our thanks to the hospice, please consider making a donation to John Taylor Hospice via this site.
Thank you
