Streets2Homes is a charity based in Harlow, Essex and they also manage a day centre which seeks to reach out to and help homeless people. They provide a safe and friendly environment in which to assist them in a number of ways including finding accommodation. The demand for housing in this area always outstrips availability so it can take time to find suitable accommodation, they are always looking for good landlords to work with. The day centre provides a place to access housing advice, social contact, training sessions, employment advice, health services, washing facilities, food, clothing, general guidance and support. They cannot do all the work themselves but do have links with a wide range of agencies and organisations that they can contact to try to get the appropriate type of assistance to meet the needs of their clients. They are extremely grateful for the donations and support we receive from the community.
Every year they also open an overnight shelter between Christmas and New Year; I have been volunteering at the Christmas Shelter for the last few years.
In order to raise awareness of local homeless issues and raise money for homeless charity Streets2Homes I am participating in this year's Sleep Out on Friday May 11th (fingers tightly crossed for good, dry weather!) I will be spending the night sleeping rough in whatever the weather throws at us!
Any donations, no matter how small, will be most gratefully received.
Thank you!
Wendy
