Giving Children a Better Start

On Sunday 28th April 2024, our amazing team of trekkers is challenging themselves to walk up to 15 miles round Wokingham to help raise vital funds for Home-Start Wokingham District. 

Home-Start has been providing compassionate support and friendship to disadvantaged and vulnerable families with young children for almost 28 years.  The parents we help are often single mums on low incomes, with depression/anxiety, disabilities, illness and/or isolation. Most have little, if any, other support. They often face additional challenges such as having newborns, twins/triplets or 3 or 4 children under the age of 5 or older children with conditions such as autism or ADHD. Home-Start relies on a wonderful team of trained volunteers who go out into the community, visiting families in their homes each week and giving them the emotional and practical support they need to get them through a particularly tough time. By working alongside parents for 3-6 months, we help improve their mental wellbeing, teach them new parenting skills, help their children reach developmental milestones and widen the families' networks in their local community - giving their children a better start in life.
