Please help me to mark my 60th birthday weekend by contributing to raising unrestricted funds for WomenCentre.
This year the Women’s Centre for Calderdale and Kirklees will celebrate 35 years of providing support to over 125,000 of some of the most vulnerable women across the Borough’s and their families. WomenCentre delivers services to women and girls during periods of crisis and transitions in their lives including those experiencing acute and long-term mental health difficulties, victims of domestic abuse, women refugee and asylum seekers, women with drug and alcohol difficulties and those that have been in contact with the criminal justice system. The Centre’s work is focused on holistic care of the woman and her family, some of whom may be in danger of having their children taken into care and those whose children are already being looked after by others. WomenCentre is working closely with partners to identify and safeguard children at risk and to support girls and young women who may be having children of their own or are at risk of chaotic lives in the future. In addition, counselling services and advice cover information, support and signposting re: debt, benefits, housing, immigration and enforced marriage. Recognising the need to support women in taking control of their lives and their futures, the Centre is developing health and well-being pathways and delivers training and education. A new partnership housing project is helping to ensure that vulnerable women and their children have a safe and secure base from which to start rebuilding their lives.Whilst it is important that these funds are directed to the women most in need, this scenario is inefficient and not in the best interests of a sustained holistic approach to societal reform and breaking cycles of abuse and disempowerment.
