Why they need our service

The Wigan Borough's Vision 2026, Community Strategy states, less than 1 in 5 of its residents are qualified to level 4 and above. GCSE attainment in the top 3% of disadvantaged neighbourhoods is only 38% compared to the boroughs average of 61%.Less than two thirds of Wigan's population are qualified to level 2, this is lower than the national and regional average. People living in deprived areas are less likely to enter higher education meaning that the skills level of the borough is a low level

Plan and expected results

We envisage a significant reduction in the worklessness, in the longer term and increase in the economic value of the borough, having aided new enterprise and employment. Within the context of worklessness this provides valuable opportunities for work placements or experience within the organisation, for example giving people with learning disabilities the chance to own and run a service they use or are employed by.
