YMCA Sleep Easy - Ami Sanderson & Laurence Stephan

Please say yes to gift aid - this means the taxman donates 28p on every £1 you donate. Growing up in Milton Keynes I was always very aware of the homelessness around me. The YMCA has always played an important part in helping with this. The recent budget cuts are going to have a direct effect on the young people of our city. I signed up to Sleep Easy to show that we care about our community and to raise awareness for this issue. On Friday 22nd April we will be sleeping rough in Milton Keynes to raise awareness and to fundraise for this worthwhile cause. MK YMCA already serves approximately 500 young, homeless people a year in the area and having lost £194,000 in council funding, they are looking to raise awareness among local people of what it is like to be on the streets for just one night. According to the MK Community Foundation ‘Vital Signs’ report 1,250 people were recorded as homeless in MK in 2014, compared to 350 in 2013. However, these are the official figures, but in reality the figures are probably higher as they don’t take into account those who are constantly sofa surfing. This needs to change.
