I am privileged to work for the YMCA in Milton Keynes.
It's a privilege as I get to work along side some great young people.
The young people that are able to get a bed in the YMCA are well looked after, but over 700 people had to be turned away last year because we were full.
We need to raise as much more money also we can do more and help more young people... and you can help too be sponsoring me.
Thank you for your support.
Sometimes the young people living at the YMCA have had some really difficult issues to overcome and yet I find them to be positive and committed to be the best they can be in a place they values them and supports them.
“YMCA MK enables young people to thrive”
We take a Youth Minded Community Approach
YMCA MK supports approximately 500 young adults per year through our housing services, many of whom have experienced homelessness before coming to us.
While with us residents of MK YMCA are supported by a dedicated key worker and supported through our Step Programme which includes a resident activity programme (Step-On), an incentive scheme (Step-Up) and a savings scheme (Step-Out).
We work with residents to develop confidence, self-esteem and motivation levels as well as independent living skills and we provide encouragement and support to help residents into employment.
Local Authority financial support for our services has now been withdrawn meaning an annual loss of funding of £200,000.
Our Mission
YMCA enables people to develop their full potential in mind, body and spirit. Inspired by, and faithful to, our Christian values, we create supportive, inclusive and energising communities, where young people can truly belong, contribute and thrive.
Our values
The way we act at YMCA is characterised by five strong and distinctive values that flow from our Christian ethos.
• We seek out
• We welcome
• We inspire
• We speak out
• We serve others
