We run a football and mentoring project which is simply using the power of football to build trust with young people and the power of relationships built to help change their lives through direct intervention and referrals to other projects. We run weekly sport sessions; one to one mentoring at our sport venue and at our offices. We provide a safe place and we operate a 24 hours phone line where our mentors are ready to respond to young people issues. We run a weekly intercultural youth club.
Why they need our serviceOur youth programme target children and young people living in the most deprived areas in Plymouth and among the poorest in the UK. They have all ranges of disadvantages yet to believe exist in our society. Many young people simply have no access to regular sport; no guidance to help with their choices in life; employability and educational opportunities and very low to none for many; risk and exposures to gang culture, drugs and alcohol are very high.
Plan and expected resultsAll our participants to have a better and a healthy lifestyle. Improved physical well-being, as children and young people are encouraged to embrace playing regular sport. Get them into employment and in education. Offer advice and guidance to help resolve their general welfare issues. Improved self-esteem and confidence. Reduced isolation.
