As I quickly approach a significant Birthday and retire from my full time work I thought it was only right to give my friends an opportunity to donate to "Small Steps - Seize the Day" to mark this occasion. They are a fast growing charity, based in the North East of England, raising awareness of epilepsy and supporting families who have babies and toddlers with this condition. They do this across the local area through their support groups and local events; and also Nationally and Internationally through their website Forum and active Facebook page, where many families find useful discussion, empathy and support. Small Steps - Seize the Day was set up to fill a gap experienced by many families who are coping with the emotional trauma of an epilepsy diagnosis and the difficulties that come with a child who as a result may be developing slowly, if at all. Families in this situation can feel isolated and avoid going to social events where babies who are developing well and are healthy may go, not wanting to answer any intrusive questions. This can therefore mean that they miss out on regular activities for their babies such as messy play, song and dance, baby massage - we work to change all that. Also it’s an emotional roller coaster especially in the early days. I hope my friends feel they could help to provide a little support in making a financial donation and marking both my age and retirement (from full time work)at the same time.
