The Trinity Centre
The Trinity Centre in Cardiff is a beacon of hope for people who are facing hard times close to Cardiff's city centre. From the day it opened, word has spread about the warm welcome, practical help and friendly social activities here. People from all over the world come to Trinity – as well as people from just round the corner. It was set up by the Methodist Church but operates with and for people of all faiths and none.

Trinity has good links with local communities, the NHS, City Council, politicians, businesses and lots of voluntary groups. “You've made a massive difference to life in this part of Cardiff,” they tell us.

Trinity is managed by a team of unpaid volunteers and many of the services are run by volunteers too. We manage our resources very carefully but must raise all the funds needed to run the Centre. That includes heating, lighting, insurance and all the other day-to-day expenses which come with a beautiful, but ageing building.

Income comes primarily from renting out space at the Centre, but also from events like concerts and ethnic food events and small grants from other organisations. But the Centre could not continue to operate without generous donations from its supporters. We are very grateful for every penny people can spare.

Trinity has been managing to cover its running costs over recent years but now we face a really big challenge. The building is over a hundred years old and needs a lot of improving – this will be expensive. We have started raising money from trusts and foundations, from the lottery and from government. We have launched an appeal to church groups, and people who may be able to help us with donations.

Sanctuary Project
The Trinity Centre is very popular, but there are serious problems with our building. Well over a hundred years old, its design isn’t really suitable for modern needs and there is a lot of wear and tear to put right.

In-depth consultations took place with users, local people and other stakeholders, along with careful checks of 16 other buildings in the area from which it might be possible for Trinity users to operate. Taking into consideration capacity, location design and know-how it was decided that redeveloping Trinity was by far the most attractive option.

We are planning a redevelopment project to make the Centre more accessible, safe and appealing for the long-term. Current halls, kitchens, toilets and meeting areas will be more attractive and efficient and there will be new features like areas where confidential discussions can take place, so important to asylum seekers and refugees. More visitors will able be take part in more activities more often – leading to improved well-being for literally thousands of people each year. At the same time, we want to improve the 'landmark' status of what remains a very elegant and prominent building, with a fine, much-loved spire.

We are calling this redevelopment project The Sanctuary Project.

Our proposed work programme includes remodelling and full upgrading of the interior of the building, repairing and minor alterations to the exterior of the building and replacement of building services throughout.
• Improved access into and around the building, and the addition of a lift
• More and better toilets and baby change facilities, in line with the number of users
• A larger kitchen with good hygiene standards, equipped to feed 80-100
• Creation of consultation rooms, these smaller rooms allow for privacy
• Improved storage
• New Food Bank access route for when other areas are in use or locked
• Flexible Spaces with foldaway seating and tables to allow space to be adaptive
• Easily cleaned flooring to allow a wider variety of activities
• Improved lighting and ventilation

Why do we need funding?
Current estimates for delivering the Sanctuary Project show an overall cost of £1.8 million.
So far, we have raised over £150,000 and have finalised the design of the project and obtained all required planning permissions. We are now working hard on the challenging task to fund the construction phase of this project.

Please support us - we are desperately in need of this renovation to make the Trinity Centre a warm and welcoming space for asylum seekers, refugees, the local community and the volunteers who plan and deliver brilliant activities and events.

In a recent letter of support received from Cardiff Councillor Owen Llewellyn Jones he wrote regarding the Centre as follows:

"Their commitment to the community is outstanding, whether it be with refugees, young families or local support networks Trinity’s work is incredibly wide reaching and deliberately engages with those who are less well off in society. From vital things like educating and providing food to bringing some fun, confidence and wellbeing into people’s lives by opening up whole groups to activities, I have seen first-hand the immense benefits that they bring.
My ward is an area of high depravation where there are sadly a high number of children living in poverty. Since the loss of Community First, provision for these groups has been depleted but I know that Trinity have the potential to fill that void. Its position at the top of both Clifton Street and Newport Road is easily accessible and the support they are providing is already a huge benefit to the area. Further establishing Trinity at its current location will not only help preserve a beautiful and much loved building, but will give residents a much needed community focussed facility right on our doorstep. Their plans are extremely exciting and if successful promises to amplify Trinity’s already excellent work. I very much hope you can support it."

Mae Canolfan y Drindod yng Nghaerdydd yn hwb o obaith i bobl sy'n wynebu amseroedd caled yn agos at ganol dinas Caerdydd. O'r diwrnod yr agorodd, mae gair wedi lledaenu am y croeso cynnes, y cymorth ymarferol a'r gweithgareddau cymdeithasol yma. Mae pobl o bob cwr o'r byd yn dod i'r Drindod - yn ogystal â phobl o rownd y gornel. Fe’i sefydlwyd gan yr Eglwys Fethodistaidd ond mae’n gweithredu gyda ac ar gyfer pobl o bob ffydd a dim.

Mae gan y Drindod gysylltiadau da â chymunedau lleol, y GIG, Cyngor y Ddinas, gwleidyddion, busnesau a llawer o grwpiau gwirfoddol. “Rydych chi wedi gwneud gwahaniaeth enfawr i fywyd yn y rhan hon o Gaerdydd,” dywedant wrthym.

Mae'r Drindod yn cael ei reoli gan dîm o wirfoddolwyr di-dâl ac mae llawer o'r gwasanaethau'n cael eu rhedeg gan wirfoddolwyr hefyd. Rydym yn rheoli ein hadnoddau yn ofalus iawn ond mae'n rhaid i ni godi'r holl arian sydd ei angen i redeg y Ganolfan. Mae hynny'n cynnwys gwresogi, goleuo, yswiriant a'r holl gostau eraill o ddydd i ddydd sy'n dod gydag adeilad hardd ond sy'n heneiddio.

Daw incwm yn bennaf o rentu ystafelloedd yn y Ganolfan, ond hefyd o ddigwyddiadau fel cyngherddau a digwyddiadau bwyd ethnig a grantiau bach gan sefydliadau eraill. Ond ni allai'r Ganolfan barhau i weithredu heb roddion hael gan ei chefnogwyr. Rydym yn ddiolchgar iawn am bob ceiniog y gall pobl ei sbario.

Mae'r Drindod wedi llwyddo i dalu ei chostau rhedeg dros y blynyddoedd diwethaf ond nawr rydyn ni'n wynebu her wirioneddol fawr. Mae'r adeilad dros gan mlwydd oed ac mae angen ei wella'n fawr - bydd hyn yn ddrud. Rydym wedi dechrau codi arian o ymddiriedolaethau a sefydliadau, o'r loteri a gan y llywodraeth. Prosiect Noddfa

Mae Canolfan y Drindod yn boblogaidd iawn, ond mae problemau difrifol gyda'n hadeilad. Ymhell dros gan mlwydd oed, nid yw ei ddyluniad yn addas iawn ar gyfer anghenion modern ac mae llawer o waith adnewyddu i'w wneud.

Cynhaliwyd ymgynghoriadau manwl gyda defnyddwyr, pobl leol a rhanddeiliaid eraill, ynghyd â gwiriadau gofalus o 16 adeilad arall yn yr ardal y gallai fod yn bosibl i ddefnyddwyr y Drindod weithredu ohoni. Gan ystyried faint mae'r adeilad yn gallu ei ddal, ei leoliad a gwybodaeth arbenigol, penderfynwyd mai ailddatblygu'r Drindod oedd yr opsiwn mwyaf deniadol o bell ffordd.

Rydym yn cynllunio prosiect ailddatblygu i wneud y Ganolfan yn fwy hygyrch, diogel ac apelgar yn y tymor hir. Bydd neuaddau, ceginau, toiledau a mannau cyfarfod cyfredol yn fwy deniadol ac effeithlon a bydd nodweddion newydd fel ardaloedd lle gellir cynnal trafodaethau cyfrinachol, sydd mor bwysig i geiswyr lloches a ffoaduriaid. Bydd mwy o ymwelwyr yn gallu cymryd rhan mewn mwy o weithgareddau yn amlach - gan arwain at well llesiant yn llythrennol i filoedd o bobl bob blwyddyn. Ar yr un pryd, rydym am wella statws 'tirnod' yr hyn sy'n parhau i fod yn adeilad cain ac amlwg iawn, gyda meindwr poblogaidd.

Pam mae angen cyllid arnom?

Mae'r amcangyfrifon cyfredol ar gyfer cyflawni'r Prosiect Noddfa yn dangos cost gyffredinol o £1.8 miliwn.Hyd yn hyn, rydym wedi codi dros £150,000 ac wedi cwblhau dyluniad y prosiect ac wedi sicrhau'r holl ganiatâd cynllunio gofynnol. Rydym nawr yn gweithio'n galed ar y dasg heriol i ariannu adeiladu'r prosiect hwn.
