We work passionately to protect, promote and enhance the natural environment of Biss Meadows
Biss Meadows astounds visitors with its beauty and variety of wildlife yet it is just 5 minutes from the town centre! The Friends are a group of people who are passionate to maintain and protect the area, and sensitively enhance it for the enjoyment of the citizens of Trowbridge and visitors from further afield. We run regular working parties and nature inspired events for our supporters, and we work with schools and community groups. You too can help to protect this natural resource.
Why the community needs usIn just a 6 years, the Friends have revitalised the Country Park, winning many civic awards. Many more people now visit Biss Meadows, especially families. We have gained grants for new habitat and amenity works, and with your help, we can continue and expand on this valuable work. For example, by facilitating nature visits by schools, gaining wildlife status, building a nature trail, buying tools for working parties, and converting newly acquired fields into colourful hay meadows.
Our impact on the communityBiss Meadows will continue to provide a vital green oasis for both wildlife and people in a town that is expanding rapidly. It helps to preserve one of the few remaining wetland meadows, vital for much wildlife, especially butterflies. The clear water in the ponds and the River Biss will continue to attract kingfishers, herons and swans, as well as support newts and dragonflies. Biss Meadows provides a great outdoor resource for schools that will engender the love of nature in children.
