Supporting families, children and young people with Autism and Asperger syndrome.
We are a team of volunteers whose work enhances the lives of families, carers, children and young people affected by autism and Asperger syndrome on the Isle of Wight.
We provide local support groups, meetings with guest speakers, out of school clubs which gives support to others in a similar situation.
We raise awareness of the austistic spectrum and the work that we do by attending local community events.
We are also represented on a few local authority meetings which gives parents a voice.
Why the community needs usThe Isle of Wight is a very rural community, knowing other individuals and parents with a child on the autistic spectrum can help to reduce those feelings of isolation that many of of our families have said they experience.
Since our launch, we have reached out and supported hundreds of families who have come to realise that they are not alone.
We offer a wide range of activities to include; self-help support, information and advice, fundraising activities for existing or future projects.
Our impact on the communityThe NAS IOW branch makes a positive impact on its local community by encouraging children and young people to develop their social awareness and understanding. Benefits will be realised through our programme of activities, which will create added benefits in the form of improved health and wellbeing, building friendships and learning to support each other as they move towards their adult life.
Strong friendships have grown between members and volunteers giving one another excellent support.
We would love to hear from you if you're interested in volunteering for the Isle of Wight Branch of the National Autistic Society.
Volunteers can help with fundraising, event organising, publicity and marketing.
