Think Children supports vulnerable children aged 4-11 yrs across Nottinghamshire who are displaying signs of emerging social, emotional or behavioural difficulties. We provide early intervention at the onset of the problem with low level, low key, and non-stigmatising, 1:1 school-based support. We fill a gap in services for children who fall below the threshold for statutory intervention and for whom there is little or no other help available.
Why the community needs usOur aim is to prevent a child's emerging emotional and behavioural difficulties from becoming a pathway to educational marginalisation, social disaffection and violence or self-harm. The strains of emotional survival can be a block on a child's development and result in a downwards spiral of events in which their increasing despair and anger become directed either at themselves, or at everybody else. Early support is essential, neglect of these problems is serious for the child and society.
Our impact on the communityEvidence from follow-up evaluations show 83% of children continue to show improvement three months after the sessions have ended, demonstrating that these are fundamental, long-lasting changes for children at an early stage of emotional, social and/or behavioural difficulties. We have listened to people in their local community. Parents/carers have told us that "Nobody wants to know until it's too late!"
