Whitefoot and Downham Community Food + Project (wdcfplus) has been created for people who are experiencing poverty. Our focus is primarily on the provision of food, as well as working alongside other local statutory and voluntary agencies to provide a holistic approach to alleviate food poverty and to build caring communities. We have four key objectives:1) food provision, 2) promoting healthy living, 3) developing positive partnerships, 4) building caring communities.
Why the community needs us
Some of the services we offer include debt management, housing and Local Councillor surgeries, employment, business skills, healthy eating on a budget, parenting and pastoral support. Since its creation, wdcfplus has also linked up with over fifteen local partnerships that provide various services to our visitors and volunteers, ranging from debt advice to nutrition, social housing and parental support.
Our impact on the community
Wdcfplus sees 60 people a week come through their doors, and on average 120 people reached every week. Most are on a food and support programmes lasting 6 weeks to 6 months, Typically 2 new 'visitors' also turn up to the project a week, having been referred to wdcfplus by its various community partners. Within the six years wdcfplus has been in operation, approximately 1000 local households have accessed the project, whether for temporary or longer-term hardship relief.
