The Bedfordshire Down's Syndrome Support group was set up by me and some other parents of children with Down's Syndrome 25 years ago this October. The group is running a '25 for 25' fundraising campaign, so when I came across the Milton Keynes 25 mile challenge, it seemed perfect.
We do a lot of walks in Milton Keynes, so some of the route is familiar, and I have broken the route down into several more manageable stages - including stops at the end for a toasted teacake or a glass of wine!
When we set the group up, we just wanted to provide a way for families to get together, and our fundraising was for some trips out and a Christmas party. 25 years on, the group subsidises speech therapy, early development education, multi-sports and dance classes, trips to the Pantomime and PGL weekends, teen and young adult groups....the list goes on. This costs around £20,000 a year, which is a huge amount for a small charity.
So please help me to enable the charity to continue supporting local people with Down's Syndrome and their families.
