I am running London Marathon 2026 for Popham Kidney Support (PKS). PKS is a charity close to my heart, set-up in memory of my father who had chronic kidney disease (CKD) for over half his life. He dealt with CKD with an enviable positive attitude, the charity was set-up to help people like him live as he did, not to let CKD define him. The charity, based in Swansea supports all affected by kidney disease in Wales to improve their quality of life, they provide services such as peer mentorship, group support called kidney café’s, counselling, patient grants, wellbeing and activity days for children as well as education and campaigning for better services. For those who know me, know London Marathon has been on my bucket list since I turned 50! I had a place in LM20, I lost my running mojo in the pandemic, 5 years later I had a place in LM25, deferred due to injury and at the end of 2025 I broke my wrist. I started to question whether I would ever get there! LM26 at 56 sounds good! Through training, I think about those affected by kidney disease, how they cannot run away from this condition! Treatment, such as dialysis, is on average 3 to 6 hours 3 times a week. While I will be running London marathon someone will be dialysing and while the marathon is just a one-day event, dialysis is a lifetime! Those receiving support from PKS say, ‘I don’t feel alone – someone understands what I am going through’! Help me, support the charity support children, youths, and adults with kidney disease in Wales and their families to lead a better quality of life! Thank you in advance for your support - every penny counts!
