In May 2026, I’ll be taking on the BIG Ring of Fire Cycling Challenge — an incredible event organised by the amazing MK Rugby Club community. Over the course of 1.5 days, I’ll cycle 170 miles to raise vital funds for charities close to our local community.
The Route
Thursday, 14th May: We’ll set off from Dover, crossing to Dunkirk, before riding on to the Menin Gate in Ypres. There, we’ll attend the poignant Last Post ceremony, and take a moment to reflect (with a well-earned local beer or two!).
Friday, 15th May: A 6 a.m. start sees us head through Plugstreet (twinned with Wolverton) and Vieux Berquin, before looping back to Dunkirk by around 6 p.m.
Why I’m Doing It
This challenge won’t be easy — I’m definitely not as fit as I once was (a mix of age and a little laziness!), but I’m determined to push through. I’ll be relying on muscle memory, sheer willpower, and most importantly, the knowledge that every mile helps raise funds for two fantastic causes:
Willen Hospice – It costs over £10 million each year for Willen Hospice to continue providing their expert, compassionate care. Fundraising is absolutely vital to help them support local families when they need it most.
4Ed Campaign – Supporting families affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND), this campaign provides financial assistance and essential resources to improve quality of life for those living with the condition.
I’ll be self-funding the entire challenge, meaning every penny donated goes directly to these charities. Whatever you can contribute will make a real difference — please consider supporting me to help them.
Thank you so much for your kindness and support,
Kevin
