We are running the Great West Run (half marathon) on Sunday 21st May to raise money for the amazing charity Football Against Dementia!! Football Against Dementia is a CIC dedicated to helping anyone (not just footballers) affected by dementia by providing a range of practical support and guidance. The club aims to fight against dementia and create happy memories whilst helping people stay in their own homes if that is their wish.As well as supporting all those affected by dementia, the club and in particular Chris Sutton have been very influential in raising awareness around the link between dementia and football. The link between the sport and this terrible disease is beginning to show more and more, and a recent research study in Sweden has shown footballers to be 50% more likely to develop dementia than the rest of the population. This growing issue is particularly close to my heart as my uncle, John Deehan, sadly developed dementia aged just 58 after playing professional football from 1975-1990.
Football Against Dementia is a great cause, very close to our hearts, that is both supporting those with dementia, whilst raising awareness about the disease and we would greatly appreciate any donations possible.
