Help Us Preserve the History of the Hippodrome!
Our theatre has always been a cherished part of the community, and now we’re working to preserve its rich history through our exciting archive project. With over 1,000 photographs, original printing blocks, posters, programmes, props, and more, our collection tells the story of performances dating back to 1908. These materials offer a glimpse into the vibrant cultural life of the Hippodrome and the broader impact of theatre in Northern Mill Towns.
However, time has taken its toll. Fragile photographs, ageing posters, and delicate artefacts need urgent care and protection to ensure their survival for future generations. That’s where you come in.
We need your help to raise £5,000 to:
Properly preserve our collection with archival-quality materials.
Digitise and catalogue these unique pieces of history for easy public access.
Fund IT equipment and cloud storage for long-term preservation.
Why This Matters
During the challenges of 2020, we discovered just how significant our archive is. Donations from local families—including a suitcase of old photographs and a 1940s chocolate box filled with press clippings—highlighted the importance of capturing the stories of those who graced our stage. But preserving these memories requires resources.
How You Can Make a Difference
Whether it's a financial donation, contributing your skills in preservation or scanning, or donating items that add to our collection, your support is vital. Every pound brings us closer to ensuring this important piece of theatre history is preserved for generations to come.
Join us in safeguarding the legacy of the Hippodrome. Together, we can keep these memories alive.
We’re grateful for the support of Todmorden Town Council and the Community Foundation For Calderdale in helping us preserve this archive.
