Alive and Kicking supports older people in North-East Glasgow with social activities, lunches, outings and events that keep people connected and active.
Alive & Kicking SCIO is a community charity based in the Greater Springburn area of North-East Glasgow. For more than 37 years we have been supporting older people and adults with disabilities by providing a place where they can meet others, stay active and feel part of their community.
Our organisation runs a regular weekly programme of activities in a friendly club atmosphere. Members come along for lunch, enjoy a chat with friends and take part in activities such as bowls, line dancing, bingo and tea dances with live music. These simple things make a big difference to people who might otherwise spend much of their time alone.
We also organise walking groups, golf outings, day trips and supported holidays to places such as Ireland, Blackpool and Spain. These trips give members something to look forward to and allow people to build friendships that often continue outside the group.
Over 200 members benefit from our activities each year. Many of them live alone or have limited opportunities to socialise, so having somewhere welcoming to go each week is incredibly important. Alive & Kicking gives people a sense of belonging and helps them stay active both physically and socially.
The need for services like ours is very real in the Greater Springburn area. There are few local places where older people can meet regularly in a safe and supportive environment. Our charity helps fill that gap by creating spaces where people can connect with others and take part in community life.
Through our weekly activities, outings and social groups, we help members build friendships, stay active and remain connected to the wider community.
For many people, Alive & Kicking is not just a group to attend, it is a lifeline and a place they truly feel part of!
