About the appeal

Welcome to #SupportNewTalent fundraising campaign - British Ceramic Biennial's response to the crisis facing early career artists.

It is a particularly difficult time for new artists. The Covid-19 pandemic has meant exhibitions, degree shows and fairs have been cancelled or moved online. British Ceramics Biennial spoke with students whose studios are closed, new artists unable to access grants as well as industry partners who are committed to maintaining jobs in Stoke-on-Trent.
This is a critical moment for the ceramic industry. The sector relies on original talent - it requires new voices, perspectives and ideas for contemporary ceramics to be relevant and resilient.

It was whilst having these conversations that we also heard a heartfelt passion for creating a more equitable future where anyone, whatever their background, can build a career in contemporary ceramics.

This feedback has shaped the Fresh Talent Development programme that will use the inspiring platform of BCB 2021 to bring together new artists and more established creatives to create career-defining opportunities.

We need YOUR help to raise £10,000 to run the Fresh Talent Development. With your support, we will facilitate an ambitious new programme - for creatives by creatives.

The 2021 British Ceramics Biennial will be a platform to bring together over 300 new artists, creating career-defining opportunities:

Talks and workshops by established artists - 300 live participants and 2,000 recorded
Tailored mentoring support and a flexible access fund for up to 20 talented artists facing particular disadvantage
Structured networking opportunities for 50 early career artists to build relationships and grow ambitions
