About the appeal

Almost 4 million people have fled Ukraine to escape the conflict that began just over a month ago. They have had to leave their homes, employment and loved ones. Their future is very uncertain, and the number of refugees continues to rise.

In response, Stripey Stork is supporting sponsor families who are hosting Ukrainian refugee families arriving in the UK through the UK Homes for Ukraine scheme. There are a significant number of Ukrainian families already matched with families in Surrey. We know that the vast majority of these are a mother and child who will be arriving with very few belongings. We anticipate that they will arrive in the next few weeks.

Where possible we will support these families with donations of pre-loved items from the community. However, some items will need to be purchased new for hygiene reasons, like mattresses. To ensure we are well stocked with all the items which these families will need, we will also need to purchase some items. The type of products which they are likely to need will include: cots, clean warm bedding, buggies, baby equipment, clothes and toiletries. These practical items will help the families to settle into their lives in the UK, and provide them with a warm welcome from the local community.

The money raised through this appeal will enable us to purchase these items and ensure we can meet the demand for our services. If we are fortunate enough to have any funds remaining from this appeal when the needs of the Ukrainian refugees has been met then they will be used to support our general work with vulnerable families throughout the year.
