We are a long-established charity working to improve the lives of people living in Elmbridge
Our vision is for a fairer local community where we are all valued and have the opportunity of a decent quality of life. Our key objective is to help and support residents of Elmbridge who are in need. Our work is to tackle a range of needs including poverty, debt, lack of affordable housing, poor health, food and fuel poverty, disability, domestic abuse, transport challenges and social isolation. Elmbridge is the 9th most unequal borough in the country. There are significant pockets of deprivation, with some wards having child poverty rates of 30%. Many residents who are unemployed, on low pay or in unstable employment are struggling to meet everyday costs.
Why the community needs usWe support the local community by awarding Individual and Community grants, managing sheltered housing for older people and social housing for single people in need, renting land and buildings for community use, and researching local inequalities to highlight the negative impact they can have on our community.
We are currently raising funds to support local families who have been hardest hit by the COVID-19 crisis.
Our impact on the communityIn 2019 - 2020 we housed 116 people in our sheltered housing, 27 younger people were housed in our properties in partnership with Elmbridge Rentstart and Transform Housing and Support, 116 older people were housed in the our sheltered flats, 13 charities and local community groups benefitted from co-location at Charities House, 173 Individual Grants totalling £57,133, £131,255 Community Grants committed to 20 organisations and 499 allotment plots were managed, benefitting 369 tenants.
