We are a scout group, and a registered charity, who aim to inspire and shape tomorrow's leaders. Our activities are designed to develop skills and teamwork; build confidence and nurture qualities of leadership; celebrate diversity and achievement through a wide range of land and water based activities. We run beavers, cubs, scouts and explorer sessions and during the summer months, along with the usual scout camps and hikes, our activities are focused on water based activities.
Why the community needs usThe activities run by the scout group give youngsters the chance to experience activities that would be otherwise out of their reach. It's amazing to see how much attention a group of young children pay to the sailing coach on a cold Friday evening at the Halifax Sailing Club, and wonderful to see their skills handing sailing dinghies after a few sessions - we'd like more of the local community to have the ability to enjoy such activities and build life long friendships whilst doing so.
Our impact on the communityMany of our current leaders, and parents have themselves previously been members of the 12th Halifax Scout Group - they will all tell you what a big impact it had on their lives. We want to extend this opportunity to as many children in our local area as possible. In addition we plan to train our Explorers as coaches in sailing and paddlesports, allowing them to coach the younger scouts and also extend our coaching sessions to other areas of the community - schools, brownies, guides etc.
